Escape is situated in walking distance (about 15 minutes) of Aldeburgh High Street which has an eclectic mix of artisan shops, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, and pubs set in pretty Georgian buildings. It is a charming and fashionable seaside town which grew from its fishing and ship building heritage. The pebble beach is great for looking at the boats and buying fresh fish from the local fishermen, taking a coastal stroll, or just enjoying the fresh sea air and watching the world go by.

A circular walk takes in some of the best countryside in Suffolk and is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From Aldeburgh you can enjoy a walk to the fantastical holiday village Thorpeness known fondly as The Home of Peter Pan’.  On the way to Thorpeness from Aldeburgh you will see a giant scallop shell in fabricated steel created by local but internationally renowned artist Maggi Hambling.

Art and culture are highly regarded in Aldeburgh with gems like the over 100 year old Aldeburgh Cinema run by local people.

In more recent years Aldeburgh has gained fame through its annual international music festival founded by Benjamin Britten, one of the twentieth century’s greatest composers with his long term personal and professional partner Peter Pears. The Red House offers a charming insight into their lives and includes access to their collections/archives, a gallery, shop and café.

Alongside other local characters of note, Britten and Pears are buried in the Lawn Cemetery of St Peter and St Paul's Church Aldeburgh. The Church has a magnificent and vibrant stained glass window in memory of Benjamin Britten.

Six miles away at Snape Maltings, on the banks of the River Alde is the world-famous Snape Maltings Concert Hall set within a beautiful heritage site of converted Victorian buildings, home to independent shops, galleries and eateries. You can explore the marshes along the river and look at the local flora and fauna.
